Come and join us on a Wild Food Foraging Walk down to the River Tees. We will explore the incredible abundance of wild edibles as we walk through woodlands and along hedgerows, foraging as we go. There will be the chance to really become familiar with many different plants as you learn to identify and gather different wild foods, as well as getting to know some of their toxic lookalikes.

This is an in depth mini course designed for complete beginners or those looking to boost their confidence with  foraging.

- What to Expect -

🌱We'll look at how to get started with foraging, how to research and identify wild edibles, how to find find them and how you can continue building your knowledge and confidence.

🌱How to forage safely and within the law.

🌱How to act sustainably when out and about.

🌱You will learn how to correctly identify around 10 wild edibles, which can include flowers, fruits, foliage and fungi.

🌱How to use wild food in the kitchen, including tips on how to prepare, store and preserve them and make the most of your harvest.

 

Lunch will be provided by We Are Wild using some of the kind of foraged ingredients gathered on the day. There will be vegan and vegetarian options for lunch but please let us know if you have any other dietary requirements or allergies in advance.

- What to Bring -

Please dress for the unpredictable British weather, and wear whatever footwear you feel comfortable in. At this time of year, please expect the paths to be muddy.

Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you want to take notes along the way.

You can also bring a basket or container to take your wild edibles home in.

 

- Accessibility -

This route is through woodlands and fields, with no formal path. There are toilets available at the Walled Garden but none along the walk. If you have any accessibilty requirements  please get in touch before booking just to make sure that this event is right for you.
